Cigar Aficionado named the My Father The Judge Grand Robusto its 2024 Cigar of the Year, awarding it a stratospheric 98 points — the industry's highest annual accolade. Rolled at the Garcia family's factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, this bold, full-bodied cigar is wrapped in a rich, oily Nicaraguan leaf and packed with a blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers that punch well above their weight. From the first draw, the cigar delivers notes of earthy spice, dark chocolate, and cracked black pepper, with undertones of leather and wood that evolve beautifully as the smoke progresses. The complexity of flavors is matched by a smooth, well-constructed draw that burns evenly all the way to the nub. It is a tribute to the Garcia family, who emigrated from Cuba and built one of the most respected cigar operations in the world. Buy it now!
First introduced in 1995, the Fuente Fuente OpusX made history as the first true Dominican puro — a cigar made entirely from Dominican-grown tobacco, including the wrapper, a feat many in the industry believed was impossible. Carlos Fuente Jr. cultivated wrapper tobacco in the mineral-rich volcanic soil of the Chateau de la Fuente estate, and what was originally his personal everyday blend grew into one of the most legendary and coveted cigars in the world. The blend delivers a full-bodied experience layered with notes of cedar, spice, leather, espresso, sweetness, and delicate floral undertones. Demand perpetually outstrips supply, and the line has expanded into sought-after limited releases including Angel's Share, Forbidden X, and Oro Oscuro. If you can get your hands on a box, consider it a genuine score.
The Padrón Serie 1926 line was created in 2002 to commemorate founder José Orlando Padrón's 75th birthday, with 1926 referencing the year he was born. The No. 9, a box-pressed robusto measuring 5.25 x 56, is widely regarded as the finest expression in the lineup — it earned 97 points from Cigar Aficionado and took the coveted Cigar of the Year title in 2007. Each cigar in the 1926 Serie is individually hand-crafted from tobacco aged five years, then blended to achieve an exceptionally smooth, complex, balanced, and full-bodied flavor. On the palate, expect rich notes of chocolate, coffee, nuts, and a hint of black cherry, with a finish so long it seems to linger indefinitely. Every cigar carries an individually numbered guarantee band — a mark of authenticity from one of Nicaragua's most meticulous producers.
The Oliva Serie V Melanio is named in honor of Melanio Oliva, the family patriarch who founded the Oliva tobacco empire in Cuba in the early 20th century. It claimed Cigar Aficionado's Cigar of the Year title in 2014 with a 96-point score, cementing its place among the great Nicaraguan blends. A full-bodied smoke, the Melanio delivers a signature combination of coffee, roasted nuts, and warm spice, captivating the palate from the first third through to the finish. Available in both natural and maduro wrapper options, each vitola is rolled at the Oliva factory in Estelí and wrapped in an Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf that lends a subtle sweetness to balance the cigar's power. If you're looking for a consistently outstanding Nicaraguan smoke with genuine pedigree, the Melanio should be at the top of your list. Buy it now!
The Liga Privada No. 9 is arguably Drew Estate's most iconic cigar, produced in small batches at their La Gran Fabrica factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, by only the most skilled rollers on the floor. The blend is built around a jet-black Connecticut Broadleaf Oscuro wrapper that has been stalk-cut, stalk-cured, and aged for 18 months, giving it a toothy, oily appearance and a distinctly earthy character. Underneath, seven different long-filler tobaccos from Honduras and Nicaragua are bound by a zesty Brazilian Mata Fina binder, producing deep notes of dark chocolate, espresso, black pepper, cinnamon, and sweet cream. Cigar Aficionado awarded it 94 points and ranked it in their Top 10 in 2015, and demand has never let up since. With production kept intentionally limited, Liga Privada No. 9 sells out fast — when you see it in stock, buy a box. Buy it now!
Introduced in 1994 to mark Padrón's 30th anniversary in the cigar business, the 1964 Anniversary Series sits a step below the flagship 1926 in strength but is no less celebrated for its consistency and craftsmanship. The Torpedo vitola earned Cigar Aficionado's Cigar of the Year award in 2021 with 97 points — an extraordinary achievement for a line that has been in continuous production for three decades. Made entirely from Nicaraguan-grown tobacco and available in both natural and maduro wrappers, each cigar carries its own 6-digit serial number for authenticity. The 1964 Anniversary Torpedo delivers a medium-to-full profile with flavors of cream, cocoa, hazelnut, and roasted coffee, building beautifully in complexity from light to nub. It is the rare cigar that consistently punches above its price point and suits both the committed collector and the guy who just wants a great smoke on a Friday evening. Buy it now!
The Don Carlos line is considered by many aficionados to be the finest expression of the broader Arturo Fuente portfolio, sitting just below the legendary OpusX in terms of prestige and scarcity. What sets the Don Carlos apart is its rare aromatic Cameroon wrapper — a leaf grown in West Africa that imparts a distinctly elegant sweetness and complexity you simply cannot replicate with New World tobaccos. The cigar is rich, full-bodied, and spicy, with a construction that Carlito Fuente designed specifically to deliver the ultimate in consistency and flavor from the first draw to the finish. The Don Carlos Edición de Aniversario, released to mark the 30th anniversary of the line, represents an ultra-rare peak of the series, crafted from the finest aged tobaccos the Fuente estate has available. Even in its standard production vitolas, the Don Carlos is a special-occasion cigar that justifies every penny. Buy it now!
The Cohiba Behike is Habanos S.A.'s most elite production cigar, and the BHK 52 — a robust 5⅛ x 52 vitola — earned Cigar Aficionado's Cigar of the Year in 2010 with an outstanding 97 points. What makes the Behike truly singular is the inclusion of Medio Tiempo leaves in its filler, a rare upper leaf found only on a small percentage of Cuban tobacco plants, prized for its exceptional oil content and concentration of flavor. The result is a medium-to-full-bodied smoke of extraordinary refinement, delivering layers of cedar, cream, dark fruit, and subtle spice in a way that few cigars in the world can match. Production is strictly limited and pricing reflects the rarity of the raw materials, placing the Behike firmly in the collector and connoisseur tier. For those who appreciate what Cuba's finest tobacco is capable of, this is as close to a definitive experience as it gets. Buy it now!
The Montecristo No. 2 is arguably the most universally recognized premium cigar on the planet — a Cuban torpedo measuring 6⅛ x 52 that has set the standard for the vitola for generations. Rolled at the H. Upmann factory in Havana, it earned Cigar Aficionado's Cigar of the Year recognition in 2013 with a 96-point score, confirming what aficionados have known for decades. The No. 2 offers a medium-to-full-bodied profile with a seamlessly constructed draw that transitions through flavors of roasted nuts, leather, cedar, and a refined spice that builds gradually without ever overwhelming the palate. Its torpedo shape concentrates the flavors at the tapered head before opening up into a fuller smoke as the ring gauge increases, making it a genuinely dynamic burn from cap to foot. It is the benchmark against which every torpedo-shaped cigar in the world — Cuban or otherwise — is ultimately measured. Buy it now!

Joya de Nicaragua holds the distinction of being the country's first premium cigar manufacturer, established in 1968 and with a history intertwined with Nicaraguan cultural and political identity. It is unabashedly full in both body and strength, making it a serious proposition for experienced smokers who want maximum power in a premium, handcrafted format. Joya de Nicaragua's commitment to single-country purity means every puff reflects the volcanic terroir of Jalapa and Estelí in the most direct way possible. Not every great cigar needs to knock you off your feet — sometimes the most satisfying smoke is the one you can reach for on any given afternoon without ceremony. The Perdomo Champagne makes a compelling case for itself as the finest everyday Connecticut on the market, featuring an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper draped over an all-Nicaraguan array of long-filler tobaccos. The result is a harmony of balanced flavors — cocoa, coffee, roasted almond, and oak — seated in a silky, creamy finish that makes it extraordinarily approachable without ever being boring. Nick Perdomo's Nicaraguan-grown tobacco base gives the Champagne more backbone and depth than you'd typically expect from a Connecticut-wrapped cigar, bridging the gap between mild and medium in the most satisfying way. It is the ideal choice for a morning smoke or for introducing a friend to the world of premium cigars without overwhelming them. Buy it now!
The Plasencia family has been growing tobacco in Nicaragua and Honduras for over a century, supplying leaf to some of the world's most famous cigar brands, but the Alma Fuerte is where they stepped firmly into the spotlight as master blenders in their own right. The Generoso — a hefty 6 x 60 toro — was named by multiple publications as one of the best cigars of the year upon its release, showcasing what the Plasencia estate's own farms are capable of when turned inward. Built around a Nicaraguan Jalapa Rosado wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Jalapa and Estelí fillers, the Alma Fuerte delivers a full-bodied profile of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, leather, and a warm, peppery spice with a long and deeply satisfying finish. The box-pressed format not only makes for an elegant visual but concentrates the smoke into a more focused, flavor-intense draw. Few cigars anywhere on the market offer this level of raw quality for the price. Buy it now!
Pete Johnson of Tatuaje Cigars is one of the most respected and independently minded blenders in the premium cigar business, and the Reserva SW is widely regarded as the crown jewel of his regular production lineup. Rolled at the My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, the Reserva SW uses a San Andrés Mexican maduro wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers — a combination that produces a rich, sweet, full-bodied smoke unlike anything else in Tatuaje's catalog. The flavor profile is a tour de force of dark chocolate, espresso, dried fruit, and earth, with a natural sweetness from the maduro wrapper that balances the cigar's considerable power beautifully. Johnson deliberately keeps production limited to maintain quality, which means the Reserva SW sells out quickly and rewards those who pre-order or stock up when supplies are available.
